Osborne House, the three-storey royal seaside villa overlooking theSolent and probably the best known Victorian country House in Britain,will open to the public and play host to a two night concert that seesPop Idol’ Will Young and 80’s pop princesses Bananarama headline thisspecial event on the 31st July and 1st August 2010. John Giddings, organiser of Osborne House Summer Concerts and theIsle Of Wight Festival, is thrilled to have teamed up again with GreenEye Events, Riverside Productions and English Heritage to put on thisunique weekend. We are proud to continue the tradition bringing greatartists to the grounds of Osborne House. Both Will Young and Bananaramawere such huge success at the Isle of Wight Festival last year that wehad to bring them back to the island!
Will Young is the original Pop Idol’, winning the series in 2002,he has since become most successful British male solo artist of the2000’s and has sold over 8 million records. He will entertain thecrowds at this year’s Osborne House Summer Concerts with hits spanningacross 4 multi-platinum albums in a setting built for royalty – even ofthe music kind!
Dust off your dancing shoes and prepare to boogie until your heart’scontent as the first ladies of pop Bananarama close the weekend in true80’s style. For over 25 years Bananarama’s name has been synonymouswith great pop and dance music, and with ten top-ten UK singles, threeU.S. top-ten hits and a US number one it’s easy to see why.
In 1987, the world was greeted by a new vocal talent. Shocked by thepowerful, mature soulful voice of a 21 year old, the UK obliged bysending his debut single Never Gonna Give You Up’ to the top of thecharts for five weeks. The artist was, of course, Rick Astley. The restof the world soon followed suit and the following two years saw Rickcontinue to dominate the charts around the globe. Rick will beperforming the songs that made him famous at this year’s concert.
Part of the New Romantic movement and hailing from Sheffield, ABCcharted ten UK and five US Top 40 singles between 1981 and 1990 and arebest known for combining synthesizers with orchestra to produce apolished, bright pop-oriented sound. Fans will take a trip down memorylane with the much loved 80’s band.
Since her departure from The Go-Go’s Belinda Carlisle has gone on tobecome a phenomenally successful solo artist. Fans will be entertainedwith her hits Leave A Light On, Circle in the Sand’ and the numberone classic Heaven is a Place on Earth’
Howard Jones had an impressive run of hits throughout the 80’s and90’s. With a large and loyal fanbase he has continued to be one of themost talented writers and performers out there and will be joining his80’s peers on stage at Osborne House.
Peter Cox and Richard Drummie make up Go West. Their self titledalbum GO WEST’ sold 1.5 million copies worldwide and established thepair as a chart force and one of the greatest singer-songwriter duos toemerge in the 80’s. 2010 is the 25th Anniversary of the release of theband’s first album and they are on the road again.
CharleyMacaulay’s sensational voice, uplifting sound and innovative writingstyle has won her much desired praise and attention, and hasestablished her as one of the UK’s most exciting new talents. ReachingNumber One in the UK Undiscovered Chart, Charley is destined for abright future and will be supporting Will Young.
The stunning 19th century English Heritage location of OsborneHouse, set in 1000 acres of lush greenery, has proved to be a fantasticsetting for the last two years. English Heritage is once againdelighted to be hosts.
